The Pioneer Of Modern Architectural Education Of China -Research Of Lau Fook Tai

Lau Fook Tai (1893~1952) is the first dean of Department of Architecture in modern architectural history of China, who is also the pioneer of modern architectural education of China. He studied in the department of architecture in University of Oregon in the USA and got bachelor degree and master degree of architecture there. After came back to China, he established and host the department of architecture in National Central University and Peiyang University. He was also the dean of department of civil engineering in Gui Zhou University and dean of department of architecture in North Jiao Tong University. He was professor of Tianjin University, too. As one of the earliest architects in modern architectural history of China, he had lots of representative architecture works and academic research achievements.The research focuses on the architectural education theory and architectural design theory based on the introduction of Lau Fook Tai's architectural studying experiences, architectural education contributions and architecture design practices. At the end of this article, Lau Fook Tai's status in modern architecture history is the result of analysis of his education experiences, social background, characteristics of the times and his teaching experiences, architecture creation, contribution on history and so on.Lau Fook Tai's talent was restricted in that unrest period. But he was always diligent and Assiduous, erudite and proficient at design as well. He was also approachable and moderate. He had contributed all his life on the career of modern architectural education of China. He is the key man of the research of Chinese modern architecture history.As the pioneer and founder of modern architectural education of China, one of the excellent architects of the first generation, Lau Fook Tai's theory on architecture education and architecture design are also significant to the architects and architecture researchers nowadays. We can summarize scientific and rational ways of architecture teaching and designing ways from that.
