Macbeth is the last of the four great tragedies of Shakespear and also the shortest. The fertile imagination, occasional visions and abundant supernatural elements in this play make it particularly amenable to symbolical interpretation. The thesis here aims at exploring and analyzing the symbolical significance of imagination and visions in revealing the characters?inner conflict and of the supernatural elements in co-operating with the malignity in the character抯 soul as well as the dramatic effect they achieve.
