Saul Bellow (1915--), as a winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature, is one of the most influential novelists in contemporary American literature world. The language of his works is accurate and incisive, and the content is rich, profound and realistic. His way of thinking is not as random as it appears to be. Instead of being casually connected, his ideas all can be traced back to one original source hat is Spinoza belief of man body and mind relation. Beyond all doubts, man can achieve the peace of mind through the interactions of the body and mind, which is where Saul Bellow and Spinoza agrees. This paper just takes this agreement as the clue to analyze and illustrate the significance of Bellow novels from the philosophical angle. The paper is composed of three parts: Part I is a brief introduction of the great novelist life and works. Part II is the main body of the paper, which respectively analyzes the characters of the heroes, Bellow way of thinking, the style, the psychic pattern and the religious realm of the novels to buttress its main point that the Spinozian ideas are the key to understanding Bellow novels. Part III arrives at the conclusion that the Spinozian ideas are the key to understanding Bellow novels. Man can achieve the peace of mind through the interactions of his body and mind, and this is the road to human liberty.
