Dualism of Descartes is dualism of people themselves in essence.From then on,especially in recent three or four decades,under the impetus of the achievement in neurophysiology,cognitive science,computer science, philosophy of language,Contemporary Western Philosophy of Mind has got an unprecedented development and has become the most dynamic,the most challenging one of the disciplines in Western Philosophy.However,the development of contemporary philosophy of mind did not make the source--Cartesian philosophy lose its power and influences.And it can be said,many discussed problems,to some extent,are derived and developed from the Cartesian ideology,and in principle it does not go beyond the scope of Descartes considering(of course not all issues).Therefore,further study of the Cartesian thought,exploration of its modern sense are not useless but for better understanding of the Western mind and Descartes himself,as well as a more comprehensive evaluation.Philosophy of Descartes is in the form of dualism,he clearly divided the world into different types,each separate entity.Dualism of Descartes is dualism of people themselves in essence.Because only human beings have the soul,the spirit.This article,first of all,the dualism of Descartes will do further analysis to see how he will separate the soul and physical body and make them conflict,as well as why he separated them.Demonstration of dualism of body and mind is the main purpose of philosophy of mind.Nevertheless, after finishing the distinction between of the two,he immediately looked for the unification of them.It is,therefore,inappropriate to call Cartesian a simple dualism.On the basis of his dualism,mind and body are two different things in nature,neither the identity between them,and there was no relationship between species and genus,then,how the combination and interaction among them are possible? How to explain? Descartes encountered a thorny philosophical questions and scientific questions. After exploring,we found that Descartes himself did not resolve the physical and psychological problem,however this problem have had a profound impact on philosophy of mind later.Although the scope of the exploration of modern philosophy has extended from psychosomatic relations to the relationship between mind and matter,we think the physical body in nature is the same,and is part of objects.Therefore,even though the extension of the two,physical and psychological relationship and relationship between mind and matter are different,but the real problem to be solved are the same,and thus spiritual philosophers often put them as one thing,even today, psychosomatic problems are always considered as ontological question of Philosophy of Mind.As Haler said,it touched the world as well as people apart from material things what else existing in addition to the fundamental problem. The flesh undoubtedly exists,but in addition,how about soul? If there is, whether it is physical or property? Is an accompanying phenomenon,or just in order to explain the acts maken up ? How about the relationship between body and mind ? How about the operation mechanism between them? In response to this series of questions,lots of philosopher after Descartes made different answers.But to sum up,these successors essentially continued to do two possibilities left by Descartes,either to eliminate dualism,or to insist but improve the interaction between them.Eliminating dualism groups are:neutral monism,physicalism,the same theory,and the abolition of materialism,study of perception situation;improving the interaction are: physical and mental sides,the theory of planned harmony,folk psychology, functionalism,abnormal monism.In a word,the mystery of physical and psychological relationship of Descartes,have not yet been fully explained,,the two aspects,physical and mental problems,that is,the differences and interactions of body and mind have become the common areas of followers and opponents.Although the dualism insisters are less,but the situation of dualism is more diversified.And it is hard for us to predict the future development trends.It seems that it is necessary to explain the mystery of psychosomatic Descartes.It is not only a metaphysical question,but also is a scientific question.We also firmly believe that,with the development of science,the neuropsyehology,cognitive psychology,artificial intelligence and other related study in depth,the mystery of psychosomatic problem will be explained in the end.
