The phenomenum of a chinese character with more than one phonetic or pictographic element is rather special. ShuoWenJieZi investigates the meaning of a word from its form ,The above mentioned phenomenum first appeared in form analysis, for which later scholars had different opinions .Many scholars, such as TangLan,GaoMing,Liang Donghan and Tang Kejing took a negative attitude towards it .But many books adopted this system in form analysis. This paper intends to make a thorough study about characters with more than one phonetic or pictographic element. From the angles of ShuoWenJieZi , the diversification of the the relation between the pictographic elements of this kind of characters and their meanings, the development and change of form, this paper makes a many-sided inquiry into this kind of words in ShuoWenJieZi, and further investigates the reason for their appearance in form analysis.
