The importance of reading course and the position it assumes in the curriculum is valued increasingly by more and more scholars. How to help the students grasp reading skills and cultivate their reading ability in limited periods to achieve efficient reading became the principal problem of reading course. The present study focuses on the Transactional Reading Model. It attempts to explore the possibility of the students? understanding the author's idea initiatively and actively, but not passively and singularly. It points out that students should make use of their knowledge to process the input material and understand the information expressed. In particular, it is suggested that: to train the students to acquire reading skills under the Transactional Reading Model can fruitfully enhance the college students'reading ability. The experiments done in the study confirms that cultivating college students?reading ability under the Transactional Reading Model can attain not only fast but also precise understanding of the texts.
