Most ancient scholars regarded Wu Yue Chun Qiu by Zhao Ye in Dong Han Dynasty as a historical work. Recently many scholars have noticed its literary value and novel characteristics. This paper holds the view that it's a work indicating the separation of history and literature and the transition from historical biographies to novels .Based on the ten-volume edition in Dade(大德) of Yuan Dynasty, the paper carries out an investigation into the narrative principle and character-creating and legendary inclination of Wu Yue Chun Qiu, in order to objectively reveal the value and status of Wu Yue Chun Qiu in the development history of Chinese novels.
