Infiltration Of The Biography And Legendary Novels From The YuChu Xinzhi

This thesis takes the stylistic features of the biographical novel and the legendary novel as the perspective,describes and analyzes the mutual infiltration between the two styles of the works in Yu Chu Xin Zhi,intending to explore the difference and significance imposed on the development of styles by such mutual infiltration in the late Ming and early Qing Dynasties.Chapter one,after a diachronic review of the development of both biographical and legendary novels,focuses on distinguishing the characteristics of the two styles.From the aspect of the narrative system,biographical novels lay a greater emphasis on record,while legendary novels on plot;from the perspective of language style,biographical novels follow the elegance and purity of ancient prose,while legendary novels feature elaborate diction and poetry;from the point of tenets,biographical novels pursue truth and gets rid of false information,while legendary novels attach great importance to the role of fiction;from the angle of aesthetics,biographical novels highlight the infection of morals,while legendary novels put aesthetic pleasure on the first place.Chapter two describes and probes into the actual situation of the works in Yu Chu Xin Zhi.On the whole,in terms of narrative,Yu Chu Xin Zhi highlights the character's individuality and prototypicality;as for the language,it follows the way in which details and scenes are described in legendary novels,forming a concise and typical language style;in the light of tenets,it underlines the integration of the reality and the intentional fiction,during the process of which discussions are embedded into narratives and emotions strengthened through fictions;as far as the aesthetic style is concermed,it features not only the advocated styles of expressing one's true feelings and follow your wills in that period,but also registers the reversion of rational morality.The third chapter takes a synchronic perspective,proceeding from the perspectives of the literature creation standpoints of authors and the selection standards of editors of Yu Chu Xin Zhi.It is noticed that diversified literature creation values in the same period are all-embraced.From the diachronic view,based on the analysis of the creation values of the three works of Yu Chu Zhi,Yu Chu Xin Zhi and Yu Chu Xu Zhi,a conclusion can be drawn that Yu Chu Xin Zhi serves as a critical node which helps to deal with the connections between the virtual and the real,the language and meaning,the emotion and the rationality.The fourth chapter discusses the influence and significance brought by the infiltration of this style.From "Jian Deng" series to Liao Zhai Zhi Yi,the legendary novel had gone through new changes.These new changes in biographical novels then brought other changes to the values of creation and aesthetics.Therefore,such infiltration between the styles is by no means accidental but an inevitable step during the development of style.Finally,an assumption about the research meaning of this paper is proposed.Any kind of style has its own stipulation on the one hand and constantly draws on other styles on the other hand,which is a necessary part of the development of literature.
