The film is a kind of popular medium, which can be geared to people of different ages, cultural levels and careers. As one of the closest forms of art to our daily life, it pursues not only the realness of art, but also the authenticity of life. With the enlargement of exchange of culture in China, more and more English films have been introduced into our country, which have gained preference of the Chinese people. The colorful dialogs as well as the vivid performance of Chinese dubbing actors have greatly enlarged the Chinese people's horizon. Besides the ravishing moving pictures, the dialogs in the films hold the same balance. It has come to substantially important to understand, appreciate and translate English films exactly. We should, first of all, acquaint ourselves with linguistic characteristics of English films to obtain successful film translation. Film language is a special audio and visual language, which is the combination of spoken and written language. Good English films are featured with concise and connotative sentences, as well as the sense of character, motion and logic. Excellent English film translation can bring to the audience great satisfaction both in eyes and ears. In this thesis, I probed into the special requirements of English film translation and put forward the criteria of Exactness, Naturalness and Vividness based on the theory of "Equivalence".
