Vocabulary studying has become a very important part in any' languagelearning, and semantics. one branch of linguistics that centers `around thestudy of the meanings of the words, has found its important applications in thefield of vocabulary teaching and learning. The paper intends to put the varioustheories of this study to use, namely, collation and vocabulary teaching. wordsenses and word learning---Connotation and denotation, feature analysis---apractical approach to vocabulary reinforcement, structural semantics invocabulary teaching膅rids, and grammar and vocabulary. The detailedmethods are presented to show the teaching procedures under the principles ofvocabulary teaching principles together with some essential factors associatedwith teaching. Meantime, a specific vocabulary teaching model is given as anexample to show how to teach vocabulary. Finally an evaluation is given toshow the effectiveness of the teaching approach. As the statistics show, theexperimental class which is taught with the help of the teaching approach hasa better performance in vocabulary leaning than the control class. So it may bejustified to say the teaching model proposed here is more effective invocabulary learning and teaching.However, it is necessary to remember that language is a rather complexsystem and semantics, a minor branch of linguistics, has not reached anadvanced stage, as a result the teaching approaches put forward in the paperplay a limited role in vocabulary teaching. In addition, it is necessary topoint out there are various language teaching models and they are alwayschangeable. So it is by no means to say that the model proposed in the paper isa perfect one and should be universally adopted. On the other hand, theabsolute effectiveness of the study done here needs testing under moreexperiments. This study only shows a direction in vocabulary teaching and theimprovement of vocabulary teaching needs further studies of language andother linguistics such as pragmatics, stylistics, graphetics.
