| This thesis intends to explore the characteristics of It-Cleft Sentence in Nautical English by comparing respectively the distribution between NEC and the other five corpora : MEE, MTE, T4, LOBA and BROWNA in respect of total frequency and percentage, focused elements, linking words, tense and so on. In order to operate the six large corpora, the computer software SNOBOL4 and SPSS (Chi-square test) are applied. This thesis also gives an objective and reasonable explanation of the factors of this distribution from the semantic and stylistic view.
