Word Formation Analysis Of The Latest Neologisms

The object of study for this paper is the neologisms published in AMERICAN SPEECH in the last five years.This paper concentrates on the word formation features of the latest neologisms. A comprehensive study based on classification is carried out to reveal the rules governing the creation of new words. For those neologisms that do not fit any conventional word formation categories, the paper also attempts to explain the formation process from the creator's psychological perspective. By studying some word elements with great productivity, the essay tries to demonstrate that words do not exist independently but are related to one another. And certain knowledge about word elements and word formation rules will facilitate the understanding and memorizing of English words.This paper is hopeful of having some practical value. It is expected to stimulate English learners' interest in studying English words and help them enlarge their vocabulary efficiently.
