With the development of society,the surge of new words not only reflects the changes of the times,but also meets the needs of communication.Therefore,study of neologisms has become an important aspect of linguistics.107 English word-formation neologisms in 2016 in the famous new word website Word Spy are chosen to be the study objective of this thesis to study the classifications and formation features of these English word-formation neologisms,and the process of meaning construction of these neologisms are analyzed based on Conceptual Integration Theory.The findings of this thesis are as follows: 1)English word-formation neologisms in this thesis are classified into compound words,complex words,and other words.2)The formation feature of compound words is word combination;The formation feature of complex words is word affiliation;The formation feature of other words is meaning coinage.According to these formation features,three types of neologisms also can be named combination words,affiliation words,and meaning coinage words respectively.3)Four conceptual integration networks,namely,simplex network,mirror network,single-scope network,and double-scope network,can well interpret the meaning construction of English word-formation neologisms in this thesis.Different networks are suitable for different types of neologisms.Meaning construction of combination words mainly involve Single-scope Network.Meaning construction of affiliation words mainly involve Simplex Network and Single-scope Network.Meaning construction of meaning coinage words involve Single-scope Network and Double-scope Network.Mirrored networks are only suitable for a small account of words.It is significant for comprehending meaning of English word-formation neologisms and guiding English lexical teaching to study English word-formation neologisms from a perspective of conceptual integration.
