It is necessary to redress the traditional class in order to cultivate students' ability of communication. This thesis is devoted to illustrating the process of teaching from manipulation to communication in a talking class and the theory foundation for this process.The thesis includes 7 parts. In the introduction, it tells the background of the experiment, telling the importance to focus teaching on the communicative aspect of English. Then in chapter 1, we can see the introduction of the experimental class. In chapter 2, the thesis tries to lay the theoretical foundation for the experiment, basing on the study of Nick Ellis' discovery of implicit and explicit memory. In chapter 3, in order to avoid the misunderstanding of several concepts, the thesis is trying to clarify the ideas of teaching, drilling, communicating and talking. Now, the thesis comes to the actual teaching experiment. In chapter 4, it introduces in detail how to set a talking classroom, and how to teach from manipulation to communication with teaching examples. Chapter 5 is devoted to introducing some ways of oral test and oral homework. The conclusion part tells the meaningfulness of the talking class.The thesis is based on the experiment of an 8-month training course. More efforts are needed to get systematic teaching ideas for the teaching process from manipulation to communication in the real teaching situation.
