This dissertation is a summary of cross talk art that the author has been engaged in and the main issues discussed here are some reflections on the innovation practice of cross talk art. As a traditional art, cross talk unavoidably meets with a general problem which is faced by many other traditional arts, that is, how to deal with the problem of inheritance and innovation. In this contradiction, innovation is essential to the solution of the problem and is extremely urgent. The necessity of the innovation of cross talk art lies in, first, the must for the development of the times; second, the demand of modern audience; third, the relationship between cross talk art and media and technology; and fourth, the impact of other art types and performance forms on cross talk.The innovation of cross talk art is not only related to the changes of historical conditions and realistic demands, but also to its nature and features as a popular art. As for the category of popular art which cross talk falls into, the refining of history and the basic characteristics of cross talk determine that cross talk must consider continual innovation as its basic necessity for existence. As a popular art, cross talk cannot exist and develop unless it maintains a close relationship with reality and audience and possesses the forms loved by people in specific times. There are two different opinions about this problem, which the author calls the "classicism" and "realism" of cross talk. The so-called "classicism" emphasizes the retaining of the traditional features of cross talk art, while "realism" emphasizes that whether in content or hi performance forms, cross talk should keep pace with the tunes. In the author's opinion, if content and forms do not follow the trend of realism, cross talk will lose its vitality. Therefore, the innovation of cross talk is imperative and the tendency of "Pan-Cross talk" arising hi recent years should be noticed and studied. Combining the author's own creative practice, this dissertation strives to prove that only by breaking the traditional barriers and by absorbing new artistic content, forms, methods, and techniques can cross talk art maintain its vitality.Meanwhile, this dissertation points out that, in the process of innovation, such problems should be handled properly: first, the problem of innovation, reformation, and inheritance of cross talk; second, the relationship between the innovation of cross talk and the receptive psychology of audience; third, the reference of the innovation of cross talk to other artistic forms and techniques; and fourth, the necessary consideration of modern media and technology in the innovation and reformation of cross talk.
