The inheritance and innovation of tradition is the impetus of everything development and it is the same with music. To some degree, the development of music history is the innovation of tradition. By researching and exploring the rules of music tradition succession, people will have a better understanding of the rules in music development.There are three chapters in the thesis, in the first two chapters, the author focuses on historical data summarization on the inheritance and innovation of tradition during each development stage of western classical and popular music, searching the factors of co-relationship and important clues from historical perspective for seeking the development of tradition succession rules about classic and popular music separately.by ways of summarizing the rules of music inheritance development inherently, essentially and necessarily, discussing thoroughly with the aspects of philosophy and aesthetics, adopting the methods of unity in analysis and comprehension, induction and deduction, logic and history in dialectical thinking, then the author get the regularity summary on libration effect, traditional innovations, innovational tradition, development trend, the traditional intermittent regression.meanwhile, a discussion on the ways and means of music tradition succession are also included in this chapter, and to support it, the author put forward that there are intersections between traditional music and its new correspondence, traditional inheritance is of everywhere and its correspondence to music non-preference continuity, as well as traditional inheritance and innovation is the impetus for the development of music history. From the viewpoint above, the inevitability of traditional inheritance in music development is clearly stated.
