Characteristics Of Netcronyms And Their Full Forms On Internet Relay Chat (IRC)

The purpose of Ihis paper is to make both qualitative and quantitative analyses of the netcronyms (and emotions) used on Internet Relay Chat (IRC) to reveal the formative rules and their features.The paper explores that the special environment and medium of the Internet where conversations take place determine the occurrence of the neteronyms. Detailed study is made of the formative and stylistic features of the neteronyms and their full forms to give a full view of the properties of the neteronyms. The results display that the occurrence of the neteronyms is the extension of the tendency of abbreviation in general English to the Internet as the product of communication mediated by computer, the neteronyms possess creative and playful features.
