English listening skill plays an important role in today's English teaching. It has become one of the required items in the College English Test Band-4 (CET-4) held by the Ministry of Education of China. The college students, who passed the test, still feel hard to comprehend media English, especially broadcasting and television programs in English. This paper concentrates on the comparison between CET-4 and media English, based on the corpora of CET-4, CNN and BBC. Computer programs generate quantitative data, and modern statistical methods are employed to compare and analyze the results. It is concluded that CET-4 is significantly different from CNN and BBC in many aspects. Instructional implications for English listening teaching are suggested at the end of the paper based on studying and comparing the differences.
