With the special personality and cultural impact, Yuhua's avant ?garde novels attract the literature world. Since 1990s, he has been noticed more greatly by the criticism circle because of his change on works. Among many different stylistic novels by Yuhua in the different period, exposition and query are his spiritual pursuit from beginning to end. This article tries to connect the different period novels from the foundation of "existential consciousness" which most of researchers rarely involve, so as to study the "existential consciousness" in the novels and find out the clue of which Yuhua's mind develops from narrative revolution to returning to the tradition. Moreover, this article also tries to seek the more internal interpretation of change on his works through investigating the deeper meaning of the texts. The whole thesis consists of four parts beside the introduction and conclusion. The introduction describes simply the existential conciousness which originates from the western literary trends in 20th century because of its great effect on Yuhua. This part also provides readers with the Yuhua' s idea on the existential concionsness and this thesis's writing purpose. In this thesis, the existential conciousness of yuhua's novels in different periods is explicated from four different angles. The fist part: the absurd truth.Yuhua's notice on existence is related to his pursuition for the individual spirit. This fact makes the existential concionsness in his novels be in the stand on effacing theshading so as to find out the truth while it makes the strong the predicament conci-onsness at the beginning of the novel. The living reality of the novels is a kind of conceptual truth which can be understood as the intending essence of the phenomenology, concerning about the absurdity in all sorts of relations and structures existing behind the phenomena of the experiences and reality. During this time, the ideologized truth frequently responds to the matrix of existentialism, but appears as a developing progress. With the range and scale of predicament's amplifying and increasing, the re-vealation of absurdity gradually grows into the structure of social history and human being's own spiritual structure from the concrete experience. It covers history, reality, human nature and even death. Through this, it breaks the daily experiences and ideas which people have been accustomed to into pieces while it makes people realize the absence of meaning with astonishing spiritual impact so as to wake people's sensibility for . absurdity to reflect on existential situation. The second part: the fatal threat.Violence and suffering, as a couple of central code of Yuhua's novels, show the predicament consiousness's deekpening in his works. The stand of deconstructing, the normal reason forces Yuhua to go to the other extreme opposed to empirical world, at the same time it makes the general absurd predicament go to the extreme and eveil living sta'te and point to the desire of violence and evil in human nature. It is the desire of violence to construct history's desire of violence. Then it turns around to do harm to human's life. As the living state which can never be transcended by human being in Yuhua's novels, the suffering is getting deeper and stronger. It is a result of violence, but its harmful effect on human's life is more serious and enduring than violence. Bothof them aggravate the living predicament in the course of'becoming each other and become the most original resources with combining the death. The existential consciousness of his novels becomes evident just because Yuhua pays great attention to the issueof death and is also highly sensitive to it. The great attention and sensitivity forming in his growing experience and the recollection about trauma show the cruelty of the violence and suffering in his novels, so as to cause the result of criticism and warning. However, the abandonment in writing violence enter the wrong area of genius. The third part: the despair fate.
