The paper select the legend of Avalokitesvara as its research object so as to reveal the characteristics of the common people's psychology of religious belief is reflected in legend story by deeply exploring that kind of psychology.The first chapter summarizes the current research on Avalokitesvara belief in china . On the basis of the results researched before . The second chapter mainly explores the spread and change of Avalokitesvara belief in history , the main point of which is the changing process of male Avalokitesvara to female Avalokit e svara . By categorizing the legend of Avalokitesvara into three developing periods -Wei , Jin and south - north Dynasty ; Tang and Song dynasty ; Ming and Qing dynasty ,chapter three discuss the changing process of common people's psychology religious belief and comes to the conclusion that the piousness and sacredness of common people to Avalokitesvara has been gradually weakened and at the meantime the distinction among religious also has been confused . The chapter four analysis the different psychologies of religious belief in Avalokit e svara , summaries the psychology of religious belief in Avalokite -svara which exist in Minority nationalities , and finds that the legend story of Avalokitesvara among different nationalities reflects the secularization tendency of common people's psychology of religious belief . Considering the physical nature of women and social pressure ong them , as well as the legend of Avalokite - svara involving women , chapter Five focuses on analyzing women's psychology of Avalokitesvara belief , points out that great differences between common women and noble women psychology of religious belief . The last chapter analyses the factors which influences the psychology of common people's religious in china and in addition categorizes the psychology into four characteristics : strong utilitarianism ; divinity formed withhumanity;introspection of morality and tolerance towards multidivinity .
