This dissertation, from a folklore point of view, approaches Jia Pingwa's Shang Zhou fictional texts from 1983 to 1987, laying its emphasis on uniqueness of Jia Pingwa's Shang Zhou folklore world, making a comprehensive study of folklore's development trends of Jia Pingwa's fictional texts, presenting a comparative study between Jia Pingwa and his contemporary counterparts in terms of folklore characteristics. Along with the introduction and conclusion, this dissertation consists of four chapters.Chapter One, "The Definition of Folklore and My View on It", through a historical Study of the definition of folklore, points out my view on folklore: folklore is a vital cultural phenomenon with vivid regional cuture characteristics which integrates material and spiritual lives of Common people, and links tradition and reality.Chapter Two, "Folklore Characteristics of Jia Pingwa's Shang Zhou Novels", from my view on folklore and Jia Pingwa's thoughts' source and creative pursuit, presents three kinds of folklore characteristics. (l)Unique geographical atmosphere forming features of "Qin Dynasty's grandness and Chu Dynasty's elegance" Folklore; (2)Shang Zhou regional culture leading to features of "Witchcraft and evils" folklore; (3)Shang Zhou history and culture cultivating "Conservative-Initiative" folklore.Chapter Three, "Folklore Development Trends of Jia Pingwa's Shang Zhou Novels", after regarding the process of folklore development-Collision, fission, newborn between traditional folklore and modem consciousness of Shang Zhou folklore world as a key clue, taking the ambivalence of Jia Pingwa into consideration and analysizing the dfferent stages of texts, the outline of the complicated "dynamic" of Jia Pingwa's folklore world has been further drawn.Chapter Four, "A Comparative Study of Folklore Characteristics of the Respective Novels of Jia Pingwa, Wang Zengqi and Li Hangyu", through comparison and analysis of folklore characteristics of these three representatives of folklore writers, creative uniqueness of Jia Pingwa's folklore can be thus brought into light.
