Modern Chinese History opens with the 1840 Opium War and terminates with the current reform and reopening. Compared with ancient Chinese history, it has three distinguishing features. It's progress Is paved with turns and twists. It is closer to reality. And if is more instructive and enlightening. Therefore, Modern Chinese History plays a particularly outstanding part in the quality-oriented education, and education of Modern Chinese History, contemporary Chinese history and conditions of the country.However, the traditional teaching mode seriously hinders teachers from realizing the target of Modern Chinese History teaching. Therefore, this thesis, based upon the humanistic teaching notion, constructs a brand new teaching mode which goes compatibly with Modern Chinese History and focuses upon the cultivation of practice-and-research capabilities of students. Denominated "Practice-and-Research Teaching Mode", it is characterized with a blending of systematicness activemotivation, Openness, practicability, and adaptibility. It also has its own structural pattern. First, a knotty problem is put forward and structural pattern. First, a knotty problem is put forward and studied. Second, a hypothesis is made and then the problem is probed into. Third, the hypothesis is tested by means of effective practice. Fourth, a summary of viewpoints is made. Finally, a seminar is held.A large quantity of teaching instances are cited in this thesis to illustrate how the new mode has been applied during the five years between its initiation and actual implementation. And an assessment of its effectiveness is made at the concluding part of the thesis, however, entails unmistakably a limitedness.
