A Study On The Development Of IMS-GT In 1990s

IMS-GT programme ,as a distinguished model for sub-regional economic cooperation,have emerged in Southeast Asia since the beginning of 1990s.And it is one of Growth Triangles which have developed with great success. Therefore,it has also evoked considerable interests in the region. This paper adopts the regional economic integration theory and inquires into the background,development,effects and prospect of IMS-GT. And the main conclusions are following:Growth Triangle programme is a solution proposed by some countries to promote economic cooperation and economic integration in East Asia. Growth Triangle programme conforms to the realities of the area and does advance the process of economic integration of the area. The foundations and conditions of promoting economic cooperation in smaller areas will exist in a long period of time because of the diversity of economy,politics and culture in East Asia. In the meantime,this shows that Growth Triangle programme will still take a active part in the process of economic integration in East Asia.
