On HuShi's Methodology Of Pragmatism

HuShi was an influent Philosopher and famous thinker in Chinese modern history, and he was main propagator of Pragmatism in China. Despite that he had few creative thought, his philosophy had its own peculiarity lying in his simplify of Pragmatism to a methodology so that his philosophy represented itself as methodology. But this has not drawn much attentions of academia. They have never master Hu's methodology at the level of philosophy which made it a whole, although the research on it is done widely.Hu mingled the scientific method in modern countries and the method of Puxue theory in Qing dynasty and shaped his pragmatic methodology. This methodology containing the experimental attitude and historic attitude characterized his philology: refusing metaphysics and transcendental field; opposing to any abstract doctrines of XX-ism ; attempting to reconstruct the value system in scientific way.Hu did his utmost to disseminate his pragmatism and to make full use his methodology in his research work and social activity in his whole life, which made his thought fashionable in 5,4 period .It not only accelerated the transformation of Chinese modern academy paradigm, but also functioned the enlightment of thought in the old China, which is Hu's contribution to Chinese history. But he took the scientific method as sole foundation of all knowledge, which made him missing in the absurd field of scientism which believed scientific method can solve any problem including spirit troublesome. In short, we should comb Hu's methodology reasonably and ascertain its truth and its limits, which makes it possible that we criticize his reasonable thought rightly.
