From WoRen To WangXianqian

From the point of macro-principle and micro-principle, firstly, this paper reviews and observes carefully the study situation on the conservatism in the modern history of China, meanwhile, analyses and discusses the whole characteristic of conservatism ideas during the reign of Emperors Tongzhi and Guangxu. Secondly, taking WoRen and WangXianqian as the case study, this paper makes a comparatively systematic and thorough analyzing and delving into the causes, theoretical basis and value orientation of their conservatism ideas and a series of measures taken in response to a changing society, therefore brings the influence of their conservatism ideas at that time in society. Finally, from the point of society development in the modern history of China, the conservatives were trapped in a contradictory predicament in the reign of Emperors Tongzhi and Guangxu, they couldn' t recognize and handle correctly the "sino-learning" and "western-learning" , "traditional" and "modern" and their relations, they also couldn' t choose a correct way of China, but the conservatism ideas had sensible and valuable arguments on some concrete problems, so it could be present in necessity. This paper also points out that the conservatism ideas aren' t unchangeable, on the contrary, it has a developing and changeable process. In the course of society development, it keeps tension on-balance relations which improves the development of society between radicalism ideas and other ideas. Therefore, there is no lack of beneficial enlightenment through recognizing and dealing with the ideas properly.
