The thesis starts with focus on the life of Wang Kun, an old singing artist, and then goes on to explore the cause of the forming of her style in singing performance. Using the methods of personal investigation, field investigation and comparison, the thesis divides Wang Kun's singing-centered life into three stages according to the consciousness and the social function of her music learning, that is: the primary stage, the maturing stage and developing stage. For each stage, the thesis analyzes and explains the cause of the forming of Wang Kun's style in singing performance through her life of art, the revolutionary context and her music activities within it, and her learning and studying of the art.Wang Kun's singing art has its root in the rich culture of the Chinese nation, thus portraying the national spirit with rich national flavor. Wang Kun was born and brought up, and later lived in an area rich in folk traditional culture. This area has nourished the simple and natural traditional art, which can be dated back to the Qin and Han Dynasty. The traditional art has been passed on from generation to generation, thus making the folk songs and the folk music born in this area maintains the simple and natural element of the tradition. Growing up in this culture of the national music, Wang Kun first accepted the essence of the culture of music of the nation and then worked for the nation, thus forming her artistic style of singing performance with rich national flavor.Wang Kun's life of art has witnessed the dramatic trans-formation in China's history. Led by the Chinese Communist Party, the Chinese people took the leadership through revolution. In response to the need of the era, revolutionary musicians composed a large number of music works. The suitableness for the public and the demand for the strength became the mainstream. Following the content of the music works, Wang Kun formed the new style rich in folk flavor by combining the suitableness for the public, the suitableness for the revolution and heroism, which were all necessary for the time.Through the studies of Wan Kun's life of art, we may see that the unique charm from the culture of the national music and the impression from the theme of the time (revolution) are the two main factors that form her artistic style in singing performance.
