Content: This paper states that Hegel is the first person who attempts to study the whole history of art as a complete system. His philosophy of art history is mainly based in such work as Aesthetics, Spirit Phenomenology, and etc. Hegel thinks that idea is in constant motion and art is the initial stage of the self-recognition of absolute spirit with the final transition into cognitive form of religion or philosophy. As Hegel indicates the basic contradiction in art is the one between idea and the forms of idea's show, which offers an inner motivation for art development. As for Hegel, art history is the track of idea's self-motion and one of the stages of the self-development and self-motion and self-return of idea. He explores the creation and development and the disintegration of art combining systematic and historic methods together, and form the order of art united logic and history: from symbolic art to classic art to romantic art; from architecture to sculpture to drawing- music-poem, which not only presents the law of art development from lower stage to advanced stage and from materiality to consciousness, but also generally pictures the outline of a world art history: oriental ancient art- Greek and Romanic ancient art-modem art, predicting the future disintegration of art. With the widespread application of the method of combining logic and history, Aesthetics actually becomes a monograph of art history and therefore presents the framework of Hegel's philosophy about art history.
