The study of image of Chia Pauyu is one of the focused issues in the studies of The Dream of the Red Chamber. The problem is that the summary studies of Chia Pauyu are exiguous, and most of them are contained in the summary articles on this classic masterpiece. Furthermore, the current situation is even more exiguously studied. In the thesis, we bring both the Hermeneutic and comparative literary theories to summarize the study history of Chia Pauyu as well as practice a parallel study of this image. We hope we can sketch the prospect of the study of Chia Pauyu in the multi-culture context. The thesis consists of two parts. In Part I we lay stress on the material analysis. We summarize the study history of Chia Pauyu in China. We review five summary articles on the study of the novel and Chia Pauyu. And then, with the help of numerous documents, we summarize the current study of Chia Pauyu in the multi-cultural context. We intend to give prominence to the status of comparative literary theories in the study of Chia Pauyu in the multi-culture context. In Part II the stress is laid on value evaluation. We carry out a case study of Chia Pauyu and Meulsault with comparative literary theories. We mainly explore their commonness and their common attention to the modern issues on human beings, such as the family, the feeling of belonging, the childlike innocence, the bothering of growing, and the pursuit of individual value and human nature. Because of their ignorance of the social value, they are extruded to be a stranger, and a reluctant abandoner.
