A Study On The Ideology Of Enlightened Persons Exploiting Northwest China In The Late Ch'ing Period

In the late Ch'ing period enlightened persons expounded many precious ideas and suggestion about how to exploit Northwest China, which made the ideology of developing the northwest area reach a new stage. However, in the former research historians had a little statement about the whole ideology and the orbit of the ideas' development. This paper is based on expounding the ideas that enlightened persons exploited the Northwest to from tradition to modernization.This paper consists of five parts.From part one to part four expound and analyze respectively the ideas put forward by representative figures who came from different classes and parties, namely the landlord class reformist, the westernizationists, the bourgeoisie modernization and the bourgeoisie revolutionists, and proclaim the thread of thoughts and reflect the inheritance of their ideas.The fifth part sums up these ideas' main characteristics and historical experience. The main characteristics: 1. Utilize the traditional ways is the major way of exploiting the Northwest. 2. Produce the modernization idea and become main trend. The historical experience: enlightened persons' ideas contribute to the today's west exploitation.
