In line with the popularity of learning Chinese language, we choose this project to investigate the true meaning of learning Chinese language. By learning Chinese, a deep understanding of Chinese culture and reflection on the thoughts of ancient philosophers may be achieved. In such process, people can acquire much wisdom, and the world will become more harmonious and more livable. The principle questions include:(1) why Confucius Institutes are established in Philippines and whether the original intention agrees with the local public opinion?(2) From the perspective of communication, why different attitudes towards Confucius Institutes were seen in Philippines? A thorough process is required to transmit the Chinese culture, which happened before in this country.(3) Whether the Chinese culture in Philippines is an assimilated culture with local culture or they assimilated with each other and derived a third culture?(4) Since transmission of culture is also a kind of marketing, then whether the establishment of Confucius Institutes is a way of promoting China, or drawing inspiration by studying traditional Chinese culture?(5) Whether Filipinos can also get some comprehension from traditional Chinese culture? Study methods and contents:Confucius Institute was taken as an example. Firstly, the situation of establishment in different countries and the study attitude of students were analyzed. Some related news events were selected to make further interpretation to find the meaning of establishment. Secondly, the thoughts of ancient philosophers were elucidated from the objective analysis of existing materials. By providing examples of worldwide celebrities’understanding and recognition on Chinese culture, the circumstances of overseas transmission were indicated. Thirdly, by field survey of modern Filipinos’understanding of Chinese culture, the overseas influence of Chinese culture was further interpreted. Moreover, in my opinion, the right way to transmit Chinese thought should not be limited to the construction of Confucius Institutes, and more people may be involved as well. And other methods, such as offering Chinese language courses in the middle schools overseas, should also be taken into consideration for ideological education.
