The Difficult Steps Towards "Freedom" --On The Conflict Between Sense And Sensibility Of Female Intellectuals In Woman Writers' Works In May 4th Period

Woman emancipation in "the May 4th" period, reclined great regards of democratic intellectuals. After being aware of what "being" is, these female in lacteals of that age began to seek a lot of new things such as independent personality, free indivdual character, free love and marriage, etc. Living in the turning point of two different social systems, they fought for their dreams by overcoming a lot of hardships, among which, the conflicts between sense and sensibility made the course complicated and indirect, Woman writers, like Chen Heng-zhe, Bing Xin, Lu Yin, Feng Yuan-jun, Ling Shu-hua, Shi Ping-mei, Ding Ling, were the representatives of the seekers for freedom and emancipation in the May 4th period. Their works were the authentic records and descriptions if their hesitating steps towards freedom.By analyzing their masterpieces, the author in this paper analyzes the detailed manifestation of various conflicts between sense and sensibility from three different aspects梥ociety, and oneself-梬hich were caused by their awareness for freedom vs. their compromise to conventions and customs; their dependent character and free love....It reveals that the shackles from family and society as well as their own puzzles and gritty are the obstacles on their way to freedom. Hoverer, these obstacles and conflicts didn't made them back wards. For this reason, this paper also tells the readers the way these female intellectuals fought for their personal emancipation and life value.
