| The system of Prime Minister is considered the important part in the history reseach of ancient China's official posts. It is thought beneficial to further understand the political true facts towards a dynasty .The system were to a large extent after those in Tang Dynasty, but there were new varieties. Meanwhile, the system had a big influence to those in Song Dynasty. But because of kinds of reasons, the history of this period was paid little attention by the historians. As a result, there's a big gap beta particle between the two important dynasty.In this thesis, the author tries to proceed the research from the following aspects. First, I list all the ministers in Five Dynasty from the tabal of statistics, which to tally contain 46 prime ministers, 188 envoies who add the name of "Tongpingzhangshi", draws some conclusions from the research. This piont didn't involve in any research before. Their backgrouds, including their birthplace, family background, the term of assigning, the time of death, ect are analyzed carefully. The conclusions are stated below:I Most prime ministers and envoies who add the name of "Tongpingzhangshi" came from the north (particularly the prime ministers were all from each area of north). That's a factor decision from politics, economy, culture, etc.II The proportion of prime ministers from a successful candidate in the highest imperial examination descent slightly, but is still the main source of prime ministers. This is due to the special position of ministers. However most of the envoies who add the name of "Tongpingzhangshi" rised from the ranks and in addition there still have assistant, adopted child, etc, but very few were from aristocratic family.III The term of assigning of the envoies who add the name of "Tongpingzhangshi" is slightly longer than that of prime ministers. The cause of death for prime ministers was by nature mostly, but quite a large part of envoies who add the name of "Tongpingzhangshi" died unnaturally.IV The circumstance that one person connected many dynasties, father and son ,brothers being the ministers etc .The phenomena was widespread, Most of the envoies who add the name of "Tongpingzhangshi" were relatives or had close relationship. These conclusions didn't involve in the past research. In the analysis I alsomake the research, through the contrast to those in Tang Dynasty. Then find out the regulation of its changing.Second, I study the system of prime ministers in Five Dynasties completely, including the ministers' rank, grade, assiging term, organization testing, the right of their posts and so on. Taking the Tang Dynasty as a mirror, I have the following conclusions: The ranks or names of prime ministers in Five Dynasties were the same as those in the period of middle and late Tang Dynasty, were the real prime ministers if they were added the name of "Tongpingzhangshi". There were some specialties: "Tongzhongshumenxia'erpin ". The grade of the prime ministers was improved, was called the "Zheng'erpin ". This was a big change. The choosing of prime minister was from those who had certain grade or those with the resume of "three-province officials ", with wide scope. Most of them were a successful candidate in the highest imperial examination, also appeared those prime ministers from military ranks and file, staff, official posts. Though the choosing of these posts was under the influence of political situation.It was easily seen that the dismissing of the ministers was normal from the tenure length that appointment. The tenure was below three years mostly, their natural death was the major reason. The organization in Five Dynasties was still as that in Tang Dynasty, under the control of "Zhongshu ", but its nature changed a lot. That's to say, the dominate axis decision system constituted to the members of Privy Counselor, from only the "three-province " official, and they dominated the general situation.
