This thesis primarily focuses on, as the subtitle mentions, the feasibilities of EST simultaneous interpretation from the perspective of a non-science student and explores further the approaches whereby successful interpretation activities can be carried out on the part of the aspirant interpreter. The first chapter mainly contributes to the general view of the definition of EST and SI and their respective research work in retrospect, meanwhile correspondingly exposing the plight that thus arises concerning the incorporation of the two fields. The next chapter explores specifically the feasibilities or possibilities of the simultaneous interpretation of English for Science and Technology by initial presentation of some SI theories such as the Interpretative Theory and Information Processing approach and the characteristics of EST in terms of nomenclatures and structures, etc. then it further delves into the question of the S&T knowledge requirements expected of an aspirant SI interpreter, especially on the part of a non-science interpreter trainee. The following part approaches the internal accessibilities of EST interpretation from the perspective of psychological mechanism and imports such concepts as LTM & STM, etc. as a means to the end of analyzing the practical psychological paradigm which is of great significance to the understanding and cultivation of training strategies. Chapter Three lists the approaches and fundamental principles in the actual performance of EST interpretation, and proposes a flexible and holistic approach in dealing with the on-line implementation of SI of EST nature interpreting assignments. The last chapter concludes that an interpreter trainee of non-science basis, if instructed and sustained by scientific and persistent training, despite his or her academic background, could also, through a period of training and practicing, well fulfill the task of SI of EST nature and better offset the liabilities of his or her with more assets.
