Here I will discuss the course about Qu Dajun's poetic imagery in the following six sections:The first section is to make a definition for the imagery. As a complete concept with the specific and aesthetic connotation, the imagery had its longer historical development. The meaning of thoughts, image and words had been expounded earlier in Zhouyi 'Xici which did not put forward a complete idea of imagery at all. Latterly, from Wangchong, Zhiyu to Liuxie, as a special literature terminology, imagery was formed at last and had a far-reaching influence in aesthetics particularly in the criticism of the poetic principle. Then, the dissertation will take further steps to discuss the essential characteristics of imagery by compared with the concepts such as image, idea and the mood of a literary work, etc. When the readers enjoy the poems, they must use their artistic imagination to return the script to the vivid imagery, and then taste the mood of a literary work and understand poetic feelings. The second section is to discuss the classification of Qu Dajun's poetic imagery. There are many classificatory methods of the poetic imagery. From the angle of function of expression, the section will classify Qu Dajun's poetic imagery as three types: the metaphorical type, the symbolic type and the descriptive type. The metaphorical imagery was widely used in Qu Dajun's poems. The dissertation will expounded it from the following nine aspects such as single metaphor, dual metaphor, connective metaphor, parallel metaphor, comparative metaphor, negative metaphor, rich metaphor, common metaphor and allusive metaphor, etc. The symbolic imagery often displays some abstract feelings or concepts. In Qu Dajun's poems, there were three types of symbolic imagery such as the regular symbolization, the directive symbolization and the uncertain symbolization. The descriptive imagery is that it often describes the image such as figures, events or environments, etc. The concealed feelings and the obvious feelings were main two types of imagery in Qu Dajun's poems. The third section is to discuss the combination of Qu Dajun's poetic imagery. The imagery is the basic element of poetic structure and its independent value is only relative. A poem is often made up of a series of imagery, so the function of imagery in the poetic structure can get full elaboration and affirmation. Taking a broad view of the combination of Qu Dajun's poetic imagery, I think that it should be divided into eight aspects as following: the types of coordination, contraction, bound, increase, repeat, convergence, intersection and fantasy. The fourth section is to discuss Qu Dajun's poetic imagery and its thick connotations.Generally speaking, a good imagery is always melted by both poetic deep thoughts and saturate sentiments. Qu Dajun's poetic imagery was in this way and it had both bright forms and thick connotations. The dissertation will discuss the latter from four parts as following:First of all, the dissertation respectively displayed the life's awareness from three aspects such as the life's hardship, the sense of love and the awareness freed from life. The second is the cosmic awareness. The text respectively displayed the cosmic awareness from the following :three aspects: the cosmos is always on the move, all things of creation in the cosmos are harmonious and the cosmos tempers life. The cosmic awareness had been showed by means of a large number of poems of scenery with hills and waters. The third is historical awareness. Qu Dajun was used to express his strong and profound historical awareness by means of the scenery with hills and waters or the historical relics in his poems. The section mainly displays them from three aspects, such as the rise and fall of history, the social reality and the personal circumstances. Finally, the patriotic feeling were deeply absorbed in Qu Dajun's poetic imagery, which were mainly reflected in three aspects as following: 1. His heart linked to the country and he resisted foreign humiliation. 2. He d...
