Qu Dajun was a famous writer and scholar in the early years of Qing dynasty. Heacquired a very high reputation for his poetry, and was called “The three Poet ofLingnan” with Chen Gongyin and Liang Peilan. His hard and bumpy life shaped hispersonality characteristics of complex and perseverance. And he who was an adherentof Ming dynasty was a typical of the ontology thought of Confucianism. He was bornin Guangdong province while he loved his hometown very much. In his poems hewrote traditional Lingnan culture, at the same time, he also deeply affected by theLingnan culture. He was tenacious and has lofty and unyielding characters, also hisstylized poems showed his unusual literary talents. He was said a gallant poet at thebeginning of Qing dynasty.In poetic theory and poetic creation, Qu Dajun had a positive and beneficialexploration and unique contribution. In terms of his peotic theory, Qu Dajun was inaccordance with Confucian thoughts and promoted doctrine into poems meanwhilethe poet should have noble and pure pursuit of personality and moral characters; Whathe stressed was that poems were graceful not only with "gorgeous" but also for its"mannered". Sometimes using metaphor in poetry which can make the poet seek theartistic state of the combination of poetry and painting, also it can let poetry hadneutral and simple beauty. In his poetry creation, Qu Dajun was to practice his poetictheory as the basic target, so he created a series of remarkable poems, which both hadchivalrous and tender feelings. His heroical ambition made his him aim at saving thenation. When home was occupied, he suggested that we should not abandon theintegrity; his life was full of tenderness, he loved his wife and home. When his wifedied, he was so grieving that he wrote several impressive memorial poetries. Inaddition, even if he was forced by time, but also by human nature that Qu Dajuntraveled around mountains and rivers of the motherland. However he never forget hishometown through his travelling. In his poems, there were considerable poems aboutLingnan scenery, and these poems described the pure and fresh scenery of Guangdongalong with amorous feelings, which showed the colorful Lingnan culture. At the sametime, the grand and exoteric Lingnan culture had influenced Qu Dajun’s personalityand his poem. When he expressed feelings, his poetry had an amazing and beautifulpower. Because of its poetry content went down so deeply and also because of its poetry skills proficiency was proper, therefore his poetry appeared to be refined andaffecting. Qu Dajun was good at choosing all kinds of different styles of words intohis poetry. Whether generous and sad words or the words of time and space, he alsochose frosty words. All the words showed the poet’s deep creation capability. Whenthe massive content combined with deep emotion, the poetry was much morepowerful and hale, natural and vast, indirect and smooth. It is obvious that his identitythat he was an adherent of Confucianism had a crucial effect for his literary creation.Value system as the standard of thought, Confucianism affected his life path andpoetic view; adherents of complex feelings prompted him to be a poet. All of thesereveal a noble and pure feelings, wild style, and powerful characteristic.This paper based on Qu Dajun’s poetry theory and poem, and by according to text andcontacting with history, analyzed Qu Dajun’s moral personality and poetic theory andpoetry writings. It is to study his poetry creation and poem under a synchronic anddiachronic background. Moreover it carefully analyzes Qu Dajun’s poetry thought,and gives the theory and creation to give a more practical interpretation andevaluation about his theory and creation. At last it discusses Qu Dajun actual status inLingnan literary history.
