By putting Wang Xiaobo in the background of popular cultural current in 1990s and comparing him with western writers as well as his the Chinese counterparts, the thesis tries to find out how Wang Xiaobo handed down the esthetical arts and skills created by the pioneers and also added his own original things to them to make his works unique and remarkable. It's believed that Wang Xiaobo utilized the popular culture to achieve his dual ambitions: criticizing the reality and being the vanguard of modern literature. By using texts referring to one another, Wang Xiaobo creatively rewrote and parodied the traditional works to succeed in his objects of overturning norm and adding to meanings, which is one of the characteristics of post-modernist writing. Because Wang Xiaobo was deeply influenced by Nouveau Roman, Marguerite Duras and Italo Calvino, the thesis surveys their influences on Wang Xiaobo in three respects: 1, the narrator Wang Two. 2, objectivity and irony. 3, structure and rhythm. In the last part of the thesis, Wang Xiaobo is compared with Black Humor and modern Chinese satirical humorists, the conclusion is that Wang Xiaobo greatly developed the art of satire and humor, which is one of the his memorable contributions to modern Chinese literature.
