Campus culture is a special phenomenon that grows in schools. It refers to both the material and spirit fruits created jointly by teachers and students in teaching, researching and daily life, covering the fields of materials, mental activities, systems, and behaviors. It is a live part of the social culture system, affected by and impacting on the system by influencing upon people on campus. The school education reached one of its peaks during the West Han Dynasty and East Han Dynasty, and the campus culture had a full development during this period.The thesis analyzes the reason of how the campus culture came into being from the following facts: the bud step before Qing Dynasty, the historical lesson from the ruin of Qing (for it destroyed education), the recovering and booming of economy in Han Dynasty, and how the reigning class wiped out other thoughts and put the Confucianism on the top position. Then the thesis expounds the campus building, rules setting and campus life in the West Han Dynasty and East Han Dynasty by providing a great deal of historical records. On this basis, the main characteristics of campus culture during this period are studied and thus concluded into the facts as clear goals, strict moral rules, hard study and a close relation between teachers and students. Also its active effect is concluded, i. e. it influenced and encouraged a great munber of intelligent mandarins; it enriched and developed the early social culture, and pushed forward the promotion of science and technology and the progress of the whole society. It also established thetradition of "respecting teacher and studying hard, uniting and mutual loving," which was the guidance of how the campus culture should develop.The last part attacks the feudalism in the campus culture of Han Dynasty and provides some suggestions on how to make good use of experience and methods in it to strengthen the construction of our high school campus culture during the new period of time.
