Language is such a complex thing as the society is, and more complex is the language contact. Code-switching, as an inevitable consequence of bilingualism which is an inevitable consequence of language contact, dutifully exerts impacts on both languages involved. The author studies the impacts of English-Chinese code-switching in China on the development of Chinese, starting with a discussion of the definitions of "code", "code-switching" and the relationship between the two. Then he goes to the relation between code-switching and borrowing for the reason that the author thinks the loan words are the most conspicuous reflection of the impact by way of borrowing.Actually, the impact of English-Chinese code-switching on Chinese development is so apparent, especially in lexicon, that the author offers abundant examples with detailed analysis. Meanwhile, the author tries to make a stab in the study of the reasons and functions of this code-switching. At last, considering the changes in Chinese owing to the impact of English-Chinese code-switching, the author calls for an alertness of the imperialism in linguistics and a balance in the different foreign languages education in China.
