Code-switching is a very complex and important linguistic phenomenon. Codesalways switched by many factors, for example, the linguistic reality, socialpsychology or even one’s emotion in special environment.Since1970s, linguistic and social linguistic, grammatical, psycholinguistic haveresearch code-switching which is a very important topic. For grammatical, Matrixlanguage Frame Model by Carl Mayers-Scotton is provided a very helpful and usefulmethod to analyze the structure of code-switching sentences. In the novel FortressBesieged,there are79code-switching words or sentences, and the matrix language isChinese which plays a dominant role in everywhere, and embedded language islandsnumber is25while mixed constituents number is45. For pragmatic, Yu GuoDong’sPragmatic Model of code-switching is employed to discuss what kinds of factorsneed the teller to swith whose code to send information efficiently. In FortressBesieged,the writer designed speakers send information by code-switching for79times, the goal of this can conclude into3parts: fulfill the language reality needs,fulfill social needs, and fulfill speakers’ psychological needs.Fortress Besieged is a great novel famous for its language and itscode-switching, this study intends to show the excellent use of each code-switchingwords and sentences, and make a clear analysis of code-switching in the novel.
