A Study Of Hua Jian Anthology

Hua Jian Anthology is the first collection of ci written by poets, now almost every Chinese regards most of the ci in the book with levity. In this graduate paper, I did some further exploration on the book and tried to adjust the former ideas about it.In this thesis, I reevaluate the book with reference to plenty of information and materials. Four aspects have been examined in my paper. First, I study the background of Hua Jian Anthology-the poets' frivolous conduct, the prosperity of Sichuan Province, music flourishing, poems' flowery diction. These are the basement which engenders this book. Second, this thesis analyzes the works of this book, proving they are not just flippancy, instead it expresses the real sentiments of these poets. Third, I discuss the literature styles of this book, verifying the book is composed of two styles: one is the freshness of Wei Zhuang's ci, the other is the gloom of Wen Tingyun's. At last I discuss the ralations of Hua Jian Anthology to folk literature, testifying that Hua Jian Anthology has a deep relation with folk literature, and we can't only look on this book as a pure expression of the poets' style.
