This thesis made an approaches to the historical reasons about the failure of the spreading of Christianity in Tibet and it has also evaluated historically the spreading of Christianity in Tibet through investigating the years in which Christianity was spread in Tibet and the general situation of its spreading. The thesis standpoint thinks that Christianity was introduced to Tibet in the late Ming Dynasty and in the early Qing Dynasty and it has gone on for 200 years in Tibet. Its spreading areas included" Ali, Rikaze, Lhasa and so on. It produced little impact and only a church remained in Yanjing District. This is mainly five reasons: first, its introduce caused the conflict between the two religious cultures Christianity and Lamaism; second, the missionaries adopted inappropriate preaching ways; third, their missionary activities lacked enough finances ; fourth, the situations in and out of Tibet during the missionary period was unfavourable; fifth, the restrictions of the religious policy carried out by the royal government of the Qing Dynasty and the adverse geographicsurroundings in Tibet--all these subjective and objective factorsresulted in the inevitable result. The spreading of Christianity resulted in Tibet was a religious action and it promoted the cultural exchange between Tibet and the West. However, it has arose in the colonial expansion age, so it took on strong colouring of the colonial expansion. We can't merely regard it as general religious activities. It is a kind of spiritual colonial expansion.
