Dialects In Modern Chinese Dictionary

Our government has been popularizing Mandarin vigorously since 1950s. But the dialects will exist permanently in China due to history, culture, geography and the features of Chinese character itself. Increased interaction between a dialect and Mandarin will strengthen in the future. Therefore, a dictionary and lexicon are inevitable to face the issue of collecting the dialects.The thesis discusses the issue of collecting the dialects and makes Modern Chinese Dictionary, the edition of 1996, a focused study combining with calculating three Modern Chinese Dictionaries of edition 1973, 1983 and 1996 and tries to discover some mature experience and limits in collecting the dialects. Besides, taking Chinese Dialect Dictionary, Xinhua Dictionary, Modern Chinese Standard Dictionary and Modern Chinese Dictionary Supplement as reference materials, the thesis puts forward some opinions in collection, pronunciation, expatiation and regulation and hopes that the suggestions will be helpful to the collection of dialects in a dictionary and lexicon.
