Reader Response Criticism And Reader's Role In Translation

This dissertation aims at examining the role of the reader in the translation of literary texts. Nida's translation theory concerning the receptor is re-examined. Based on the principles of reader response criticism and the reception aesthetics, the author believes that the equivalence of reader response should be the fundamental principle in translation. The author maintains that the role of the reader needs to be emphasized, and a careful study on the reader responses to both the source language text and the target language text will be beneficial to the translator in his choices of strategies regarding the segmental elements in translation.
