On The "implicit Reader" In The Acceptance Response Literary Theory

American scholar M.H.Abrams put forward the four-element theory of literature in "The Mirror and Lamp:Romantic Theory and Critical Tradition",and believes that literature is composed of four related elements:work,world,author,and reader.Throughout the history of Western literary theory,before the rise of acceptance aesthetics in the 1960s,this element of reader has not been discovered in a real sense.Many literary theorists regard reader as a vassal of literature and literary works.Attach the thinking of readers to the study of the relationship among the world,works and writers.As the author's interpretation authority and the self-sufficiency and closure of the text were questioned and disintegrated,the rise of Reception Aesthetics in the 1960s,western literary scholars began to value readers.Reception Aesthetics as a new aesthetic thought originated in the Federal Germany in the late 1960s and early 1970s.Known as one of the Gemini constellations Reception Aesthetics,Iser started with the familiar British and American novels,adopted the text analysis method advocated by the new criticism,and put forward the important concept of "implied reader"."Implied reader" is a type of reader that is completely different from the actual reader.Its essence is a phenomenological model,which is the result of the interaction between the text and the reader.It consists of two parts:First,corresponding to "the existence of readers",there is a false and untrue type of readers in the text structure,Second,what corresponds to "the emotion of text setting" is that the reader tries to interpret the text along the structure of the text,At the same time,it emphasizes the readers' initiative and reaction in the process of recreation.This concept is the most powerful criticism to the formalist literary theory which dominates western literary theory in half a century,and it is the forerunner of today's "era of readers".The first chapter mainly discusses the theoretical context of the concept of"implied reader".The backgrounds behind the birth of the "implied reader" theoryis concluded that the transformation of the literary paradigm and the response to the real crisis in the Federal Republic of Germany.On the basis of absorption phenomenology theory,modern hermeneutics theory,formalist literary theory and Gestalt psychology,Iser creatively proposed a unique "implied reader" theory.The second chapter explained the basic connotation of the concept of "implied reader".First of all,by answering the question "what kind of readers can fully realize the full effect of literary texts",the introduction and connotation of "implied readers" are introduced.Secondly,it expounds the basic operating mechanism of readers' reading activities in Iser's reading theory.The third chapter is to distinguish between "implied reader" and other related concepts,trying to further compare the concept of "implied reader" with other readers,and highlight its unique theoretical value.The fourth chapter mainly discusses the theoretical value and existing problems of "implied readers".On the basis of summarizing the content of this article,the concluding part clarifies that the concept of "implied reader" has been gradually sinicized in the process of communication in China.Clarify the reasons for this trend.The emphasis on "implied readers" should not be placed on the reader,but on the need to return to the text.
