"Children of the Laird" is one novel of Lu Ling, which was written when the author was in his period of producing climax. It also was the witness of the authors' artistic talent. This novel has important status in history of contemporary literature due to its thoroughly reviewing on the mentality course of the clerisies of China. Researchers had pay attention on this novel since new epoch, but there are still many things remained to be written when viewed this novel from different aspects. On the basis of text analysis, this thesis laid emphasis on the "One family and One Country" layout of the novel and then to discover isomorphic spirit experiences belonged to the author and protagonist on the road of spirit exploration, to state author's procedure of painful thinking, and also to make out tragic signification of the novel from aesthetic aspect.In volume one of this novel, author put emphasis on history of family life, express his deeply reconsideration on traditional culture and recognition to the trend of society development. In first part of this volume, author had observed the different psychological motivation three sons of the Jiang family besides the same "run away from family" behavior and tried to enrich the meanings of "run away from family". In the second part of this volume, author tries to states the frangible and sensitive emotion experience of individual. That is to say, author's nostalgic feeling appeared in this novel is the embodiment of his rethinking about traditional culture. It is necessary to rethinking the outstanding family culture and traditional virtue under the background of war, since it was the reflection of how the clerisies feel toward the nationalist war.In second volume of novel, author turned to history of individual soul experience. Lu Ling describe the clerisies' difficult exploration for future world in historical background of nationality war. In first part of this volume, the scene of the weald presents that the author admired strong vitality and inspirit of fight on his own initiative.
