Reflections On The Construction Of Chinese Translation Theories

Studies show that translation is not static, but dynamic. It is impossible and also unreasonable to just find several rules or sentences, or only a few words to generalize the principles of translation theory.This thesis aims to explore the construction of Chinese translation theory studies from the following aspects: difficulties of translating; brief introduction to translation theory studies at home and abroad; debates on Chinese translation studies; some reflections on the construction of Chinese translation theories and Chinese translation theory studies to be expected in the 21st century.The brief introduction of translation theory studies at home and abroad can arouse some ideas and thoughts about the construction of Chinese translation theories: modes of thinking, methods of translation studies, angles of studies, language families and ideologies of translators, etc. The thesis emphasizes that the ideologies of translators are connected with translation and greatly influence the process and result of translation theory studies.After the descriptive analysis of problems in the construction of Chinese translation theory studies, we can find that the construction of Chinese translation theories should be based on facts, and translators are required to analyze translation theory studies according to dialectical and historical materialism and use an integrated approach to push forward the construction of Chinese translation theory studies with Chinese characteristics in the 21st Century.At last, this thesis points out: with the development of internationalization and globalization, people are eager to get the knowledge of the whole world cultures through translation; and the readers are ready to accept the foreignness of the translations. The main tendency of Chinese translation strategies will be foreignization.
