The study of the language between Han (汉) ,Wei (魏) & Northern and Southern Dynasties (南北朝) is quite weak.This situation has been improved with a set of productions coming out in recent years, however, the lexical study of the language materials on stone inscriptions is still in blankness. These materials among this period are in large quantities, with certain age, credible datum and high scientific value, which make them important for language study in separate ages. Clearing words on stone inscriptions completely is very valuable, because it not only need make a historical pursuit of the production and the development of simgle word, but also is an enploit to the reseach field of Middle Chinese vocabulary, and even of the whole Chinese glossry. By correctly explaining the words, we can understand the epigraph more clearly and provide rare materials for the item-establishment in dictionaries, explaination of words and the selection of book evidence, so people can read and study literatures of mediaeval times very well. The all-round and comprehensive analysis of words is very meaningful for deeply understanding the social transform, population migration, ethical amalgamation, idealistic intercommunion, evolvement of style and their inluence on words. Besides, it is also significant for correctly reading and studying stone inscriptions and even the earlyestablishment of the study of stone inscriptions.Words of etiquette and custom are very characteristic converge among stone inscription between Han ( 汉 ) Wei (魏) & Northern and Southern Dynasties (南北朝) . We should review their connotation of acceptation, relation between converge, character of acceptation and hunt the developing status of all kinds of words of etiquette and custom, their variational causes and rules. This work is quite meaningful to establish its status in the study on the history of Chinese vocabulary, to exploit the study field of Middle Chinese vocabulary, and even to analyze the whole visage of the history of Chinese vocabulary.This dissertation includes about 140 thousand words. We make them in five groups: marriage words, funeral words, sacrifice words, etiquette and custom words and words of family name and first name, and study them in corresponding semantic fields.The keystone of it is employing theories of semantics,especially of semantic field,combining theory of ethonlogy and productions of correlated subjects, making language the start,and making a complete investigation of the etiquette and costom words in stone inscriptions between Han (汉) Wei (魏) & Northern and Southern Dynasties (南北朝) .By the all-round discription of the language phenomena, we can make a deep analysis and explaination of these words, and then explore the rule and characteristics of their development, and review the reflected cultural phenomena and cultural menntality. At the same time, using the way of double proof, we will do our best to combine the unearthed literature with literature handed down from ancient tunes, and try hard to outline the true visage of the words.
