Rediscovering The Tradition

As a special art form, the folk art is presented as an introspective plastic concept. Its particular charm of art revealed by the form and color draws great attention in the recent years, which is also used for reference by a lot of artists.However, there is still a problem to copying the folk art forms without any reasoning. Facing such a problem, this paper puts forward the idea of "rediscovering" in regard to the fact that Chinese contemporary mural painting draws on the experience of the folk art. By "rediscovering", we mean to enhance the comprehension and discovering of the aesthetic form in the folk art. Furthermore, based on the spirit meaning refracted by such a form, we try to find out the agreeing point between the two in outside form and inside spirit.The paper is structured as follows:In the first part, we analyze the basic characteristics and aesthetics of the folk art in attempt to explore the aesthetic form and essence of the folk art.In the second part, we emphasize the analysis of relationship between Chinese mural painting and the folk art as to prove that Chinese mural painting can draw experience from the folk art via the connecting points between them.The third part is the focus of the paper. We combine aesthetics with philosophy, psychology, and other knowledge fields to describe the causes for discovering the agreeing point in the folk art, in which we emphasize the description of the process and result.
