Self-concept is the main content of ego. It is the core of the personality - formation. Nearly one hundred years past, many psychologists brought the study to the field expanded, making substantial improvement. Its study experienced a developing process form a static self to a dynamic self and a single-faceted structure to a multi-faceted structure. Achievement motivation indicates an internal drive which makes the individual not only do the job which is considered important and worth, but also try to achieve the higher standard. Both the self-concept and achievement motivation are the socialized result of an individual. They are influenced by many postnatal factors. It is important for us to study the relations between self-concept and achievement motivation. With the help of them, the teachers in the south-east of Guizhou province can give the Miao students a good training on personality.The research used two questionnaires, i.e. the Self Description Questionnaire (SDQ) and the Achievement Motivation Scale (AMS), to examine 850 junior high school students of Miao nationality. The results of the research are as follows:Firstly, the development of self-concept of Miao students from urban area shows a U-shape developing trend, which is on the lowest in theirsecond year, but the students from rural area show a stable development in self-concept. Meanwhile, the development of self-concept of Miao students reflects the difference of sex.Secondly, the third-year students both from urban and rural areas obtain the score which is significantly higher than that of the first-year and the second-year students in the factor of opposite sex. Besides, the boys are significantly higher than that of the girls in academic-self.Thirdly, the students from urban area did better than the students from rural area on math-self physical-self facial-self general-self and so on.Fourthly, the self-concept of Miao students is influenced by the profession and educational level of their parents. The achievement motivation of Miao students is not significantly influenced by the profession and educational level of their fatlier, but greatly influenced by their mother.Fifthly, both academic-self and achievement motivation have significant positive correlation with the academic performance. Moreover, many factors in self-concept have striking and positive correlation with achievement motivation.
