Avant-garde novels encountered huge hindrances in the 90s of the 20th century. As a school, it has become silent, while not all of the novelists have given up their endeavor for this school. Some of them adjust their writing ways and try to create new forms to break the ice. From this part, I expect to make a more comprehensive and systematic study on the present condition of these avant-garde writers. The basic framework is as follows:Firstly, generalize the concept of "avant-garde" and throw light on its developing process.Secondly, expound the crisis of the novels in the 90s and detailed analysis of the external and internal contradiction have lead to this crisis. There are 3 external contradictions: first, disordered multiple patterns result in their idendity anxiety. Second, the interference of media weakens the advance of avant-garde novel. Third, because writers are busy with the worldly affaires, few comment from the reviewers and indifference from the readers, all these put the novels in the embarrassment. The internal contradictions include two aspects: first, they have lost their independency in the process ofdefeating one power with the help of another power. Second, the inconsistent development between spirit and technology can hardly elevate its taste. The third part is the key point of the paper, in which I narrate the strategy the novelists have used to get out of the trouble. Because their endeavor is not collective uniform writing action and only lies in the individual' s way of writing. So, the investigation of their getting out of trouble is one of research aspects. Here, we look into these problems in two aspects: first. To those novelists who have lost themselves in the technical waves. In their works, identification and establishment of self-spirit gradually come out. In this paper, I analyze BeiCun' s religion spirit and Yuhua' s "Existence Theory". Second, to those novelists who have been not affected by the technical wave. New factors have occurred in their new novels especially the originality in form. Here, I analyze Lier' s "forgetting" narration strategy and Liu Zhengyun' s formly transforming experience strategy. These works show many possibilities for the avant-garde novel to get out of present crisis.
